Independent Polish studio Mechanistry has released Timberborn 1.1, the first major update since its beaver colony builder left Early Access on March 12. The September 3 update is available now and combines new construction options with tools for understanding mature settlements: goods and population statistics, watertight infrastructure, two maps, faction-specific monuments and attractions, a dry-land plant, and another pass over balance and stability.
The most consequential additions are not merely decorative. Timberborn is organized around recurring droughts, toxic badwater, production chains, districts, vertical construction, and simulated water. Update 1.1 gives players better evidence about where a colony is failing while expanding the structures available to route beavers, power, and water through the same constrained space.
Statistics make production problems easier to diagnose
The new Settlement Panel tabs graph goods and population over a selectable period, with global and district-level views. Goods data separates stock, production, and consumption, while individual goods tooltips show a miniature chart covering the previous ten days. Population views can isolate groups such as bots and also expose changes in housing, employment, and well-being.
Existing colonies have an important limitation: the figures are not reconstructed from old saves. Tracking begins only after a save is opened and played in version 1.1. Mechanistry says 1.0 saves should be compatible, although it recommends a new game to experience the additions and avoid unexpected behavior. Players continuing a large colony should therefore make a backup, allow several in-game days to accumulate useful trends, and avoid treating an initially empty graph as missing inventory.
Four watertight structures widen the design space
Water engineering gains an Airlock that passes through a levee, an Iron Teeth-only Impermeable Tubeway, an Impermeable Power Shaft, and a stackable Compact Mechanical Pump. The first three reduce the awkward detours created when movement or power must cross a reservoir wall. The compact pump can move water directly from one side of a wall to the other and supports layouts resembling pressurized pipes. The existing mechanical pumps also receive lower unlock, material, and power costs.
Those additions fit Timberborn’s existing combination of three-dimensional water and vertical architecture. A wall can now carry more than one function without requiring stairs over every crossing or a fragile opening beside a reservoir. For players, the practical test is still pressure and contamination under real colony conditions; the official notes describe intended behavior and list fixes for several water-related defects, but they are not an independent performance assessment.
Automation becomes denser as well. Relays can now accept more than two inputs, reducing the number of objects needed for multi-condition networks. This is a small rule change with broad consequences for self-regulating dams and factories, where compact logic can preserve buildable space and make a system easier to inspect.
New maps and faction goals give the systems different tests
The Nomads map measures 256 by 256 tiles and changes water flow as cycles advance, potentially forcing migration across its arid terrain. Pillars is a smaller 192-by-192 challenge built around fragmented upper ground and an inhospitable lower level. Both maps are designed to pressure route planning rather than simply provide a different backdrop. The new Succulent supports that theme: it grows only on dry land, dies when overwatered, and stores a modest amount of harvestable water for emergencies.
Long-term construction now includes the Folktails’ Hall of Abundance and the Iron Teeth’s Arch of Progress, Tier 4 monuments positioned between earlier monuments and endgame Wonders. Each faction also receives two attractions: the Folktails get a Sauna and Domed Garden, while the Iron Teeth get a Massager and Dance Pit. Existing well-being buildings receive balance adjustments alongside these additions.
For small simulation teams, the update illustrates a useful post-launch pattern. Telemetry that players can see turns vague shortages into diagnosable trends, while new maps stress the same water and building rules under different constraints. Mechanistry also tested 1.1 on an experimental branch before the stable release and credits player feedback for shaping it. The confirmed result is a broader toolset and clearer colony data; how well old settlements and community modifications survive the transition will depend on individual layouts and current mod compatibility.
